Marcus Punch

Marcus Punch is the director of Marcus Punch Pty. Ltd., a specialist provider of reliability, risk, system safety and functional safety consulting, management and training services. Marcus Punch Pty. Ltd. was founded in 2008 and has operated continuously to the present date.

Since the early 1990’s, Marcus has been involved in the management, conduct and review of technical risk, safety engineering and reliability engineering work in Australia and internationally. This has included work in the mining, process, energy, maritime, defence and rail sectors.

Prior to founding Marcus Punch Pty. Ltd. Marcus was the Global Technical Risk Management Leader for Hatch, a global engineering company of approximately 8000 employees (at the time) operating in the mining, metals and process industries.

Marcus holds the following formal qualifications in engineering:

· Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering with Honours (University of New South Wales).

· Graduate Diploma in Risk Management (Maintenance Engineering) (Swinburne University).

· Master of Engineering Management (University of Newcastle).

· TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Engineer (Safety Instrumented Systems)

· TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Expert (Machinery)

· Professional Certificate of Competency in Cybersecurity for Automation, Control and SCADA Systems.

He is also a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Royal Military College of Australia, Duntroon.

Marcus holds the following professional registrations and affiliations:

· Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng).

· Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).

· Member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers of Australia (APESMA).

· Member of the Mining Mechanical and Mining Electrical Engineering Society (MEMMES) of Engineers Australia.

Marcus is the author of two (2) books in risk / reliability / safety (see the Books page):

· “Functional Safety for the Mining and Machinery-based Industries”

· “Think Control, Not Risk!”

He is also a member of Standards Australia committee QR5 (Dependability), representing APESMA.
